The Abia State Government has directed all tricycle operators in the state to immediately register and validate their membership with relevant associations within 48 hours from Monday the 8th of February 2021.

The operators are to register with either the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Abia State Chapter or Allied Tricycle Riders Integrated Welfare Association (ATRIWA) who are government accredited and organize the tricycle {keke} transport groups in Abia State.

The directive is contained in a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Barrister Chris Ezem and made available to DAILY POST on Monday, in Umuahia.

The State Government said the directive aims to keep track of legitimate tricycle or Keke operators.

“Consequently, the Government directs the Ministry of Transport and all security agencies to ensure strict compliance with this directive as defaulters will face the full weight of the law”.

Recall that the Abia State Government had barely two weeks ago condemned the robbing and killing of a POS Operator in Aba by unknown gunmen.

The government had complained that some Keke operators were involved in such crimes and needed to be kept in check.
