INEC Commences Training Of 9,000 Ad Hoc Staff For Lagos-Bye Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, commenced the training of about 9,000 ad hoc staff for the Lagos East Senatorial and Kosofe Constituency II bye-elections.

The disclosure was made by the commission’s Spokesman, Femi Akinbiyi on Monday.

Briefing the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Akinbiyi stressed that the training was part of its commitment and preparedness to ensure that the conduct of the rescheduled by-elections become successful.

According to him, it behoves on the commission to oversee a free and credible elections that would be welcomed by all.

INEC has already trained a set of Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) before the EndSARS protests that caused rescheduling of the election that was earlier scheduled for October, 31, 2020.

“Akinbiyi continued that a refresher training have been setup for the same SPOs.

He stated that another batch of electoral officers would undergo serious training as a way of upgrading the performance of personnel that would be deployed to supervise election conduct.

He said that National Youth Service Corps members would also be engaged in the elections.

Recall that the commission, on Nov. 12 declared rescheduling of the earlier postponed National and State Assembly bye-elections in 11 states for December 5.

“Twelve political parties candidates will contest in the Lagos East Senatorial bye-elections; Whereas, eight candidates from various political parties will also square-off in the Kosofe Constituency II, Lagos State House of Assembly bye-elections.

“They shifted the bye-elections in Lagos, Imo, Cross Rivers, and Bayelsa indefinetly as a result of challenges brought by the nationwide #EndSARS protests.
