Nigeria‘s number one man, President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the leadership style of Borno state governor.

President Buhari applauded the leadership style of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.

The President described Zulum’s humanitarian response including the provision and distribution of palliatives for internally displaced persons in the state as “exemplary, unique and selfless”.

The Minister of State for Agriculture, Mustapha Shehuri, made this known on Wednesday while addressing Borno stakeholders at the Government House in Maiduguri, the state capital.

This was contained in a statement by the state government titled, ‘Leadership: Buhari eulogises Zulum’.

“Mr. President specifically acknowledged the exemplary, unique and selfless style of leadership you displayed in the distribution of COVID-19 palliatives, direct cash transfer/empowerment, construction of houses for the internally displaced persons, their return to their respective places of origin with dignity, the construction of houses for civil servants, and rehabilitation of schools, the employment of 776 new teachers to join Borno Secondary schools in three weeks.

“The ongoing civil service reforms, N23. 5 million support for the bereaved families of 47 fallen soldiers killed by Boko Haram, the donation of N20 million and a house to the family of Late Col. Dahiru Chiroma Bako and the provision of 65 million to 8,000 widows and other persons in critical needs all marvelled Mr President,” the statement quoted the minister as telling the governor.

Shehuri was in Maiduguri on Buhari’s directives to all members of the Federal Executive Council to meet with stakeholders in their respective states to quell the violence that trailed the #EndSARS protests against police brutality.

In his address, Zulum appreciated the President for his commendation. He also commended the youths in Borno for the restraint exercised amid the unrest witnessed in the country.

He said, “Let me specifically appreciate the restraint exercised by the youths in Borno. We are known for obedience to constituted authority and peace and, therefore, all stakeholders should realise that attack on one is an attack on all.

“Every section of the society must use constitutional means to express their political or social grievances and not to resort to violence.”

The governor also noted that Borno has already gone through enough to contain another crisis.

“Borno has gone through the worst humanitarian disaster in recent history and we should not allow any section of the state to take advantage of the current situation in the country to exacerbate the security conditions,”
Zulum stated.
