Klinsmann: Kane Can Win His First Tottenham Trophy Under Mourinho

Germany legend, Jurgen Klinsmann
believes that Harry Kane can win a major title at Tottenham under Jose Mourinho, and urges the England international not to yield to the lure of better opportunities elsewhere.

Kane has only finished as second best twice in his aspiration to win major trophies with Spurs – bagging runners-up medals in the 2014/2015 Football League Cup and 2018/2019 Champions League.

Big clubs have been alerted after Kane expressed his frustration in March, that he might consider a switch if Tottenham fail to show stronger ambition.

Dimitar Berbatov and Teddy Sheringhan who starred for Tottenham before switching to Manchester United where they won many trophies recently urged Kane to emulate them.

While Sheringham won only individual honours – EPL Golden Boot in 1992/93 season, plus the PFA and PWA footballer of the season awards (2001) as Tottenham player, Bulgarian star Berbatov was there and scored when the North London side beat Chelsea 2-1 to win their last trophy twelve years ago – the 2007/2008 Football League Cup under Spanish manager Juande Ramos.

Klinsmann who also experienced trophyless career during his two stints at Tottenham – 1994 – 1995 ( under manager Ossie Ardiles) and 1997 to 1998 (under Gerry Francis, as loanee from Sampdoria), believes that Mourinho is a winner who can change Kane’s situation at Tottenham.

“He [Kane] can achieve anything he puts his mind to. He’s so, so talented, exceptional and he’s now into a stage of his career where he is far more mature,” Klinsmann told talksPORT

“He’s not the young lad anymore, even if you think of him as a young player.

“Watching him from a distance, you wish him titles. When you play a professional career, and you get the opportunity to play in a top-five team in any country in the world, then it’s about winning titles.

“And so, I keep all my fingers crossed for Spurs and for him that he can collect trophies – that’s what it is all about at the end of the day.

“That’s why I left in 1995. Even though I loved it at White Hart Lane, I had to leave for Bayern Munich because I said, ‘well I’m running out of time. l’m 31 years old and I
need to win a couple more trophies.

“But he has that chance with Spurs, he has a fantastic coach, he has a fantastic team and we all keep our fingers crossed that it happens sooner rather than later.”

Klinsmann does not doubt Mourinho’s ability to end Spurs’ 12-year search for trophy.

“Jose is an absolutely exceptional coach. Obviously, he has his philosophy, his way of doing things,” he said.

“With his experience and knowledge, he has an amazing humour as well, I just hope that things will fall into place and they get the success that they deserve.”
