The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has celebrated former Nigeria international Nwankwo Kanu’s hat-trick of assists for the Super Eagles, in their opening game against Tunisia at the AFCON 2000, Completesports.com reports.
Kanu provided the assists for the Eagles’ first three goals scored by Austin Okocha (brace) and Victor Ikpeba respectively.
Ikpeba got the fourth goal after he was set up by Benedict Akwuegbu as the Eagles began their campaign at the 2000 AFCON with a 4-2 win.
Recalling Kanu’s impressive performance against Tunisia, CAF wrote on their verified Twitter handle together with a short video clip of the game: “This #TuesdayTreble is very special as we don’t look back at goals this week… it’s a hat-trick of assists from the legend Nwankwo Kanu @papilokanu.”
Kanu went on to provide two more assists at the 2000 AFCON, the 2-0 last group game win against Morocco and the in the final against Cameroon.
However, in the final against Cameroon, Kanu had his spot kick saved during the penalty shootout as the Eagles lost 4-3.
