Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims the coronavirus may have ended the days of big spending on players.

Premier League clubs are losing millions because of the shutdown and Solskjaer says this will be reflected in the transfer market.

United smashed the world record for a defender to sign Harry Maguire for £80million as part of their £145million splurge last summer and Solskjaer says the pandemic has changed everything.

Today’s world is different to the one two months ago,” Solskjaer stated.

“We have to adjust to that.”

There are clubs out there struggling more than us financially, but still it’s a new world.

“I think the transfer market this summer will be completely different to what anyone thought it was going to be.”

Solskjaer had wanted to sign a top-level striker to replace Romelu Lukaku, but now says he is happy with his squad because of the progress of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood’s emergence.

“We are always looking to improve the squad,” he said. “This uncertainty in the market, who knows how football is going to be. I’m very happy with the squad I’ve got.”
