Super Eagles of Nigeria avenged their shock first leg loss to Guinea-Bissau thanks to a Moses Simon penalty which sealed a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers on Monday, Completesports.com reports.
The Super Eagles, on nine points, reclaim top spot in Group A from Guinea-Bissau who are second.
Head coach Jose Peseiro made five changes with Semi Ajayi, Kenneth Omeruo, Frank Onyeka, Terem Moffi and Moses Simon making their starting eleven.
After dominating the early part of the first half, the Eagles broke the deadlock for the penalty spot which they held on till the end.
Omeruo had Super Eagles first attempt on goal in the 2nd minute but his header off Alex Iwobi’s cross was Palmer away for a corner.
Guinea-Bissau had a chance of their own in the 5th minute but the effort went just over the bar.
In the 7th minute Moffi’s goal bound shot inside the box was blocked away for a corner.
Victor Osimhen almost broke the deadlock on 23 minutes after a Guinea-Bissau player was robbed of the ball but the Napoli striker could not direct his shot towards goal.

The Super Eagles deservedly took the lead on 30 minutes as Simon converted from the penalty spot after a foul on Bright Osayi-Samuel.
Samuel Chukwueze could have doubled the Super Eagles on 37 minutes after he was put through on goal but volleyed his effort over the bar.
With five minutes left in the first half Semi Ajayi met a corner with a header which the keeper held well.
In the 55th minute a Guinea-Bissau player ran on to a through pass but Francis Uzoho quickly came out of his goal line to claim the ball.
Osimhen had a big opportunity to make it 2-0 on 59 minutes but his low strike hit the post.
Few minutes later Guinea-Bissau almost equalised following a defence splitting pass and at the other end Osimhen surged towards the opponent’s box but missed the target.
In the 67th minute Mama Balde tried a low shot from outside which Uzoho got down well to save.
Substitute Joe Aribo received a pass inside the box from Moses Simon but saw his shot saved by the Guinea-Bissau keeper for a corner on 71 minutes.
Guinea-Bissau continued to pour forward for the equaliser but the Eagles held on to snatch the win.
