Super Eagles forwards, Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze, have expressed their optimism that the team will make the Djurtus [Wild Dogs] of Guinea-Bissau pay dearly for soiling Nigeria’s hallowed Moshood Abiola National stadium in Abuja last Friday with a lone goal victory in their AFCON 2023 Group A first leg match, Competesports.com reports.

The Wild Dogs will host the Super Eagles at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Monday, March 27 2023.

The two Europe-based Nigerian stars told Completesports.com in separate chats that the first leg loss was painful and disgraceful, stressing that nothing will appease Nigerians other than a good win in Bissau.

“They hurt us badly in our National Stadium in Abuja, we just have to pay them back in their coins by beating them in their home. We have to go full blast to win well and return to the top of the group as leaders,” SSC Napoli striker, Osimhen, told Completesports.com.

“In Abuja, we had so many opportunities to score as many goals as possible but we couldn’t convert any. They took their chance and defended well to win. This time around, we shall take our chances and avenge that loss. We won’t disappoint again for sure,” he assured.

Also speaking on the return leg match in the capital city of Guinea Bissau, Villarreal FC winger, Samuel Chukwueze, said the Eagles would ensure that they do not squander chances as they did in the first leg in Abuja.

“That first leg was a big shock to us and it forced us to early retirement to bed. The plan was to win well in Abuja and seal our qualification for next year’s AFCON in Ivory Coast, but to our greatest surprise, we lost. It is payback time and we have to win,” Chukwueze told Completesports.com.

“We lost because they packed their defence and caught us on the counterattack. This time around, we won’t allow them to catch us again. And I can assure you that we’ll be more clinical this time around to restore the confidence Nigerians have in us. We shall win.”

Following their 1-0 win over Nigeria in Abuja, Guinea-Bissau currently top the Group A of 2023 AFCON qualifiers with seven points from three matches, one point ahead of Nigeria who place second with six points. Sierra Leone are third with five points from four games, while Sao Tome and Principe are bottom of the group with one point from four matches.
