Ghana captain, Andre Ayew, has lamented his missed penalty kick against Uruguay during the Black Stars’ decisive last Group H match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday.

The Black Stars, on three points, finished at the bottom of the group. Portugal won the Group with six points, while South Korea (4 points) and Uruguay (4 points) finished in second and third positions.

Ghana’s skipper Andre Ayew missed a penalty kick and Giorgian de Arrascaeta subsequently scored in the 26th and 32nd minute to give Uruguay the victory.

“We had the opportunity to get to the next stage, I missed the penalty,” Sportsworldghana.com quoted Ayew as saying.

“It’s difficult to take, we did not get it right. I am very optimistic about the future. I am sad but we will try and make it better.”

Ayew scored one goal in three Group matches played at Qatar 2022.

This was Ghana’s fourth appearance at the FIFA World Cup after previously participating in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014.
