Real Sociedad new signing, David Silva, says he will help the Imanol Alguacil’s men compete ambitiously for the Laliga Santander title in 2020/2021 season despite the presence of favourites like Real Madrid and Barcelona, Completesports.com reports.
It will be a remarkable feat if Sociedad dust all challengers next season and win their first Spanish top flight League title in 39 years.
Silva is ambitious to win his first Laliga Santander title. He won Copa del Rey with Valencia in 2007/2008 season.
Sociedad have won two Laliga titles – in 1980/81 and 1981/82 seasons, and finished in second spot in three other occasions – 1979/80, 1987/88 and in 2002/2003.
Silva says Sociedad who finished sixth in the 2019/20 Laliga Santander are good playing side and can now be more ambitious to win the ultimate prize.
“I’m really excited to get started here and meet my new team-mates and the club staff,” Silva who won four Premier League titles, five EFL Cup crowns and two FA Cup with Manchester City told reporters during his official unveiling at Sociedad on Monday.
“The team is playing some great football and I hope to add to that here and have some great years at the club.”
The 34 year old added: “I have high expectations in terms of the football we’ll be playing and I think we can compete for silverware.
“I’Il be an important part of the team and in this case, because of my experience, I will help the younger players as well.
“I’ve been lucky enough to win a lot of things in my career, I’m very competitive and I’m going to try and do the same here because
that’s why l’ve been brought in.”
He admits that Real Sociedad’s spot in the next Europa League was one of the key reasons he joined the side.
“Of course, after so many years playing in Europe, you want to continue doing that” the former Valencia, Eibar and Celta Vigo midfielder said.
“I also came because I like the style of football the team plays. I also came for the relaxed way of life here which I was already familiar with having lived in the Basque Country years ago.”
