Zinedine Zidane is firmly focusing on winning his second Laliga title as the manager of Real Madrid and Los Blancos’ 34th in history as the 2019/2020 season race hits the home stretch this week.

Real Madrid, on 80 points, are currently one point ahead of their closest competitor, Barcelona, who are on 79 points. And while Barca have two games remaining to round off their title chase, Madrid have the luxury of more games – three, to get enough points that will keep their top spot intact for the crown.

Zidane’s team have it in their hands. They need two wins from their remaining three games to render whatever Barcelona achieve from their two games inconsequential.

Los Blancos’ first hurdle in the outstanding and decisive trinity is an away match against Granada on Monday, July 13. Their loaded final final week of the season will also see them host Villarreal on Thursday before the last fixture at Leganes on Sunday, July 19.

After winning all their eight games so far since the return of Laliga from the Covid-19-induced hiatus, Real Madrid look unstoppable. But Zidane spent time during his Sunday’s pre-match press conference ahead of their match against Granada, showing the composure of a manager focused on winning the ultimate prize.

Despite Madrid’s winning form, the manager fielded a question touching on his team’s lack of finesse unlike the club’s squads of the recent past seasons.

“It doesn’t bother me or surprise me, it’s always the same debate,” Zizou who won Laliga as Real Madrid player in 2002/2003 season and as manager in 2016/2017 told the press.

“We prove in every game and every training session that we are good. We have to show it. Everyone will give their opinion on what they think of Real Madrid because it is the most important club in history and this will never change.”

He added: “LaLiga and the Champions League are the goal and what we fight for, but it is useless if we look beyond tomorrow’s game.

“This is the last week and there are three games. It is the most difficult, but the most important. All the teams have things to play for and we want to put all our energy into
tomorrow’s game.”

On the talk that Madrid have recently benefitted from VAR decisions more than their competitors, Zidane remained unruffled.

“Everyone can give their opinion, I don’t mess with the opinions of others. What we are doing is giving everything on the pitch and putting in a great effort every day. That is what I’m interested in,” he said.
