Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, and other renowned sons and daughters of Ibadan descended to Mapo Hall in Ibadan on Sunday for the 8-day prayer for the immediate past Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji.
The monarch passed away at the age of 93, according to the NEWS DIRECT.
Both Christian and Islamic clerics participated in the prayer service.
Ladoja, the Osi Olubadan of Ibadan land, was among those present.
Senators Teslim Folarin, Olufemi Lanlehin, and Adesoji Akanbi, Ibadanland’s Bada Balogun, Chief Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Chief Wasiu Ajimobi, Engineer Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Mrs Olusegun Obasanjo, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, and Dr Barry Adetunji were among
In his speech, Apostle Iyiola, who led a group of Christian clerics, emphasized the significance of everyone acknowledging God and remembering that they will die one day and give an account for their stewardship while on earth.
He hailed the late Olubadan as a God-fearing guy who ruled in peace during his lifetime.
Professor Kamil Olosho also exhorted the people to live a good life like the late king did in his fidau discourse.
According to Adegoke, the monarch lived a happy life.
Olubadan’s reign, he said, was visionary, with deliberate leadership while on the throne.
“Oba Adetunji was known for his consistency in promoting peaceful and harmonious co-existence, had respect for religions and diverse cultures in the State and the country as whole.
“Oba Adetunji successfully carried on with the legacies of his forefathers, dating back to the 16th century, with an intentional focus to uphold the beautiful traditions of hospitality, respect for authorities and communal development that has always defined the throne.
“He was a wonderful, excellent king who stood with tradition during his tenure. He did not allow anyone to torpedo the Ibadan hierarchical succession plan of ascending the throne,” he said.
