The trial of former Jigawa State governor Ibrahim Saminu Turaki on alleged N36 billion corruption charges has been restarted by the Federal High Court in Dutse, Jigawa State, 11 years after it was suspended.

Turaki was detained on July 13, 2007 and charged with 32 counts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissioner (EFCC).

Following his detention, he was charged by the EFCC with misappropriating N36 billion while in office before Justice Binta Murtala Nyako of the Federal Capital Territory High Court on July 13, 2007.

The former governor was thereafter imprisoned in Kuje prisons till he was given bail of N100 million with two sureties in the same amount.

After the former governor challenged the FCT division of the court’s authority in 2011, the matter was transferred to the Federal High Court, Dutse.

According to the Tribune, a new judge, Justice Hassan Dikko, has been transferred to take over the case that was previously handled by Justice S. Yahuza before his early December 2021 retirement.

The case was then delayed by Justice Dikko until February 24 and 25, 2022, for the continuation of the hearing.
