The largest supermarket in the nation’s capital, according to the DAILY POST, was wrecked by fire on Sunday, destroying items worth billions of Naira.
Unidentified individuals were seen bringing various things from the store while the blaze was still burning, according to a video that went viral on social media.
The FCT Police spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, clarified in a statement to DAILY POST that those captured in the video were just assisting by removing the items and other valuables to a safer location.
The PPRO stated that there was no successful case of looting or carting away of products from the business, but three suspects, Ali Audu, 18 years old, Yahaya Yunusa, 20 years old, and Sahabi Abubakar, 20 years old, were arrested for attempting to take certain items.
She stated that the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Sunday Babaji, has arrived at the area for an on-the-spot assessment and that an inquiry is underway to determine the cause of the occurrence.
According to her, when the command received the information, “a team of Police officers attached to Mabushi Police Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly to the scene where a concerted effort of the Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, Julius Berger Fire Service and members of other security agencies were deployed to manage the situation, minimize damage, extinguish the inferno and ensure the maintenance of law and order. ”
“Well-meaning members of the surrounding communities came out en masse and helped in evacuating goods and other valuables from the supermarket to a safe location within the area with the supervision of Police Officers of the Command who were on ground”.
