Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani departed the nation on Sunday, August 15, after Taliban militants took control of the presidential palace in Kabul, the country’s capital, after conquering 26 of the country’s 34 provincial capitals in less than two weeks.
The insurgents, who have stated that they want a ‘peaceful transfer of power,’ are preparing to proclaim the birth of the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan,’ which was the name of the country under the Taliban government, which was deposed by US-led forces following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
According to the Reuters news agency, this comes after diplomats from the United States, the United Kingdom, and other countries were evacuated from the country.
Foreign visitors to Kabul have been advised to either leave or register with Taliban administration.
