Samuel Echendu, who was vying with his younger brother and current king, Eze Raymond Echendu, for the traditional stool of Choba village in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has died.

Echendu’s death comes as a High Court in Port Harcourt has set August 20 for the decision in a petition he filed against his younger brother over who has the right to sit on the Choba community’s customary stool.

The case could not proceed as expected after being deferred for judgment yesterday, Wednesday.

After his immediate younger brother Eze Raymond was installed as the Paramount King of Choba, Echendu, who died yesterday, asked the court to annul the installation and install him as the legal occupant of the customary stool in accordance with Ikwerre culture and tradition.

Samuel Echendu was not sick, according to a family source, and was preparing to go to court on Wednesday for the ruling when he fell and was later declared dead by a medical specialist.
