Several Chadian media outlets reported Thursday, citing local sources, that Boko Haram militants operating in the Lake Chad region killed no fewer than 24 Chadian army personnel on the night of August 4 to 5.

General Azem Bermandoa Agouna, the army spokesman, acknowledged the attack on a Chadian army position in Tchoukoutalia, Lac province, when reached by Xinhua.

According to an army spokeswoman, the counter-offensive is beginning.

Boko Haram attacks the Lac province on a regular basis.

The most recent attack occurred on April 27.

On August 14, 2019, a female suicide bomber blew herself up in Western Chad, killing six people.

Boko Haram extremists were blamed for the attack.

“Six people died, including a soldier,” in the attack in Kaiga-Kindjiria district, said the source, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Lac province borders the vast Lake Chad, which is shared by Chad, Cameroon, Niger, and Nigeria. Kaiga-Kindjiria is located in Lac province, which borders the vast Lake Chad.

Boko Haram began its insurgency in northern Nigeria ten years ago, and it has since spread to neighboring countries.

Following a severe onslaught by Nigerian forces, scores of Boko Haram terrorists and their families have surrendered, according to the Nigerian Army.

Onyema Nwachukwu, a spokesman for the Nigerian army, stated on July 31 that 91 terrorists and their families had surrendered to Nigerian troops in Ruwaza village, Bama Local Government Area.

On Monday, another group of Boko Haram terrorists was alleged to have surrendered to Nigerian troops near Sambissa woodland, along with a variety of weapons.

In a similar vein, Mr Nwachukwu announced on Wednesday that the forces had killed another another group of Boko Haram militants and their families.

However, since 2018, insurgents have launched at least 10 cross-border attacks in Chad, primarily targeting army posts.

When their front position on the northeastern side of the lake was attacked in March, 23 men were killed.

According to authorities, 11 soldiers were killed and six were injured in confrontations in Tchoukoutalia in June, while 26 terrorists were killed.

According to some estimates, Boko Haram’s campaign has killed 27,000 people and displaced two million people in Nigeria alone.

The four Lake Chad countries, together with Benin, formed an unified army in 2015 to combat Boko Haram with the support of local armed citizen groups.
