The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has finalized its preparations to introduce its own digital currency. The CBN has set October 1, 2021 as its debut date, according to information provided to Nairametrics by private sources.
Rakiya Mohammed, the CBN’s Director of IT, acknowledged the news during a recent press briefing, noting that the apex bank has been studying digital currency landscape since 2017, and is confident that digital currencies would help it fulfill its aims as the nation’s central bank.
Project GIANT is the name of the digital currency initiative, which will run on the Hyperledger Fabric Blockchain.
