Professor Abdulrahman Oloyede, the Chief Imam of the University of Ibadan, has asked Nigeria’s federal government to stop jeopardizing the lives of soldiers fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.

Oloyede made this revelation to journalists shortly after leading Muslim faithful at the University in the two Rakah mandatory Eld-Kabir prayer on Tuesday.

The Boko Haram insurgency began in Borno state in 2009, according to NEWS DIRECT.

Our correspondent has learned that the Boko Haram insurgency, which has extended to neighboring states in the country’s north eastern region, has claimed the lives of many innocent residents, troops, and other security personnel.

However, the professor of Arabic and Islamic studies warned the federal government, the Nigerian Army, and other stakeholders not to put the soldiers’ lives in jeopardy any longer.

He stated that the government should provide soldiers with the appropriate equipment in order to prevent rebels from killing more soldiers.

He stated that the insurgents will not be able to overpower the army, but that the army is useless since it is not adequately prepared to accomplish the job.

“They should not endanger the lives of our soldiers the way they are doing now.

“Spend security allocation judiciously to tame the bandits.

“They cannot be more powerful than Nigerian Army. It is not possible for any bandit to overrun the Nigerian Army. They can’t be too powerful.

“It is not possible for any bandit to overrun the Nigerian Army. Because, Nigerian Army is one of the most efficient in Africa.

“So, all the money budgeted, they should spend it the way it should be spent.

“The government should equip them with necessary equipment to combat insurgency.”

Oloyede while speaking further advised the government to do all within its power to tackle poverty in the country.

“The leaders should endeavour to take care of Nigerians. Whatever they can do to take poverty from people, they should do it.”
