Sergio Ramos has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Real Madrid.
As he recovers from a muscle injury sustained while on international duty with Spain, the 35-year-old has had no interaction with his teammates.
Ramos was supposed to be out for a month, but he’s only been out for two weeks, and it’s unclear if his positive test will affect his return period or not. Real Madrid captain Cristiano Ronaldo will now isolate himself and take the requisite health precautions.
Ramos was last seen cheering and protesting from his seat in the stands at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano for the Clasico on Saturday. He was also in the tunnel at the end of the game, where he watched the brawl between some Barcelona players and referee Jesus Gil Manzano.
Ramos isn’t the only player in the squad who has contracted COVID-19; his defensive partner, Raphael Varane, has also been ruled out due to a positive test.
Zinedine Zidane, Mariano Diaz, Eden Hazard, Eder Militao, Casemiro, Luka Jovic, and Nacho Fernandez are among the players who have tested positive for the virus.
