US Elections: Aare Gani Adams congratulates Agbaje, Owolewa, Chukwuocha, Others

Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, on Thursday sent words of encouragements to the newly elected Nigerian-American legislatures, Esther Agbaje, Oye Owolewa, Nnamdi Chukwuocha and others for doing the nation proud.

In a letter he signed personally, Iba Gani Adams reiterated the need for Nigerians in the Diaspora to aspire and seek elective positions, saying the victory was truly a fulfilment of a big dream.

Adams also maintained that though Agbaje, Owolewa, and Nnamdi Chukwuocha are just one of the ‘progressive greenhorns’ in American politics, they have what it takes to make great impacts in their respective positions, adding that the trio surely deserved to be celebrated, going down in Nigeria’s history as men and women of great achievements.

Applauding the winning spirit and confidence displayed by Nigerians in the elections, the Yoruba leader described their victory as testimony of the fact that many Nigeria’s best brains and people of exceptional knowledge that are doing wonders across the world are now being elected into elective positions.

Iba Gani Adams also congratulated Nnamdi Chukwuocha, a Nigerian – American from the East, saying : “I am happy that you have made us proud. By emerging victorious in the various elective positions. You have all demonstrated the qualities of being great ambassadors of both Yoruba and Igbo descents, and Nigeria in particular”

“Your appointment into the United States legislatures was a true reflection of your commitments, hardwork, determination and enduring life of service to humanity. Your records of professionalism, individual knowledge and acumen was the signpost of the success we celebrate with you today

” And I have no doubt that your appointment to various US legislative chambers is a call to higher duty, and I want to also assure you all of my best wishes and support on this new job and assignment.The task ahead is, no doubt, daunting but in as much as I believe strongly in your courage, experience and other outstanding qualities, I wish you all well in all your future endeavours” he said.

Agbaje,an American – Nigerian descent and a great ambassador of Yoruba land has a law degree from Harvard University, a Master’s from the University of Pennsylvania, and has served in the U.S. Department of State, among others. She will be representing District 59B in the 134 Member House on the Farmer Labour Party, an affiliate of the Democratic Party in the US.

She was elected after polling landsland votes of 17,396 representing 74.7% of the total ballots cast.

Oye Owolewa, a Nigerian-American, was also elected as a shadow member of the United States House of Representatives from the District of Columbia.

Owolewa, a PhD holder from the Northeastern University, Boston, Owolewa is the first Nigerian – American to be elected to US congress after polling 164,026 votes representing 82. 84% of the total cast.

Chukwuocha, a Nigerian-American also won Delaware State Assembly. Chukwuocha was no first-timer, as he had been a member of the Delaware House of Representatives

He joined the list of other Nigerian- -Americans like Oye Owolewa and Esther Agbaje that have so far recorded success in the US 2020 General Elections.
