Dear Aso-Rock,
In my trance fortnight
I saw thousands of Locusts
Helmets, Redcaps and Barehairs
Marching to and fro my home
Singing heroic hymns
Bearing my corpse on shoulder
As Hail Marys on Rosary procession
On top of the crew
Were you-GEJ, Rock of Igbos
Among other disastrous Locusts in our nation
I also saw brooms
Chasing the worms in wombs
Of Onitsha, Idemili North and South
And the voices calling for an erection
Streets or a feather on my cap
When I inquired from God
He said you’re about
To honour me as you honoured Ezeigbogburugburu
Zik of Africa and host of others
Thanks for your kind gesture
But, please, please and please
Good People, Great Nation
Kindly pocket your ego
As I rejected them twice while on Earth
So I reject them again and again
Your sate burial is deceptive
Posthumours honour fallacious
National monument sarcasm
If you wish to milk-dry
Our national pride
Please, insert not my name as ghost worker
If you wish to canvas for more seats
Please, don’t campaign with my funeral rites
Whitening our warring lands
Green our stunt vegetation
Resurrect our dying hoes
Heal our sick roads
Revive our decaying book
Busy the idle hands
To feed their empty belles
In and outdoors
Empower the contents of brain
Not the bloods or kola
So that smiles shall dance
On the cheeks of curled and grey hairs
That’s the honour I desired most
Yours falling Icon
