Death is simply an inconvenience
That test that every being fails.
At its bar, a man flees
At its bite, a woman wails.
That bringer of unhappiness
It strikes when a man is vulnerable;
Leaving in its wake, a vast darkness
that renders a man's kin inconsolable.
Each day pulls a man closer to his grave
Still he awakes day by day to be brave.
Each year pushes a man closer to his end.
But to his troubles, he will always tend.
Death, every union's asunder.
That inevitable limit to progress-
the fear of which makes the brave shiver
and coward restless.
Death, the very vagueness of it-
is magnified by the anxiety of a dying heartbeat.
A man is but remembered by candlelight.
His needs and dreams not to see another night.
Death, the only taker not given
The joy snatcher that offers no recompense-
Mother earth provides all but a safe haven.
Death is simply an inconvenience.
