I Thank God I’m Still Here
Just six months old in a severe and harsh domain
Doctors said I would not live to crawl
Years have passed with laughter and strain
I thank God I’m still here
The odds were against me from the start
Despair and sadness would wear me down
And soon my parents and I would part
Yet all the hardships did not give me a frown
I thank God I’m still here
With prayers answered, I came into
A potent, unknown and foreign land
With a silent voice I prayed for a clue
To give me guidance lest I disband
I thank God I’m still here
From the day of birth we have always shared
One month prior, my mom’s spirit departs
Our essence in October would again be paired
Giving me strength to forge a new start
I thank God I’m still here
Now spring has come, flowers are in bloom
Always, I feel mom’s presence at my side
Comforting my soul from the past gloom
I know, to my own rules I can now abide
I thank God I’m still here
