THIS LIFE
I COME INTO THE WORLD,
HELPLESSLY, I CRY, SO HARD I RANT.
NUDITY BECOMES MY ROBE,SO EXPOSED I’M.
MY BONES HAVE BECOME WEAK, SO LIGHT I SWAY,
MY SOUR ROUTS, NO ONE TO TEND THEM.
THIS LIFE
THE MARROWS OF MY BONES,
THEY THAW AWAY IRRETRIEVABLY.
WITH MY EYES OPEN, I SEE ME DRENCH.
LIFE BELITTLES ME, OH ME!
SO HARD I LIVE, I LIVE A PAUPER
THIS LIFE
WITH WIPS COOKED WITH POISON,
AND CHILLY SPICES FATE ACTS ON MY BODY.
SOUR AND WRINKLES MAKE MY FACE AN ABODE,
LIKE A BRIZLE I HAVE BECOME,
FULL TO THE BRIM WITH NOTHINGNESS.
THIS LIFE
FROM MOUTH TO HAND I LIVE,
FROM HAND TO MOUTH I MOURN.
ALL THINGS UPSIDE DOWN THEY TURN,
WHO WILL PUT THEM RIGHT? I ASK.
NO ONE ANSWERS, BUT SOMEONE WILL.
THIS LIFE
AND SO LOUD I CRY.
BEHOLD SOMEONE ANSWERS ME
SOME PERSON FROM ABOVE,WHOSE VOICE I CANT STAND,
BUT SUDDENLY HIS VOICE TURNS CALM,
AND SAYS TO ME.
“I’M JESUS, I SEE YOUR PREDICAMENT,
BE PATIENT AND BE OF GOOD COURAGE,
ENDOUR AND HAVE FAITH IN ME,
IN MY FATHERS HOUSE ARE MANY MANSIONS,
AND YOU SHALL BE WITH ME TO REIGHN.”
