Recently widowed, Hajia Laila Dogoyaro comes from the conservative northern
bloc where the likes of the now late Hajiya Gambo Sawaba had laid the foundation
for women's right activism in contemporary Nigerian politics. Dogoyaro made
a name as the foremost activist to the women liberation struggle. She moved
round the country, projecting the case Nigeria women with passion. This culminated
in her election as president of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS),
the umbrella body of all women associations involved in women liberation.
