Not many knew Ukeje, until 1995 when in her capacity as Chairman of one of
the failed bank tribunal, delievered a landmark, and very controversial judgement
that irked some people in government. But that singular action was to demonstrate
the kind of person she is, strong-willed, very independent minded and committed
to tenets of her profession. By sheer dint of hardwork at 56, she is at present
a Chief Judge of Federal High Court, and the first woman in the country to rise
to that status.
