Unease pervades the headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), in Abuja, following the reported appointment of a new Corps Marshal for the organisation.
Mr. Osita Chidoka was announced by a section of the media as successor to Maj-Gen. Halidu Hananiya.
However, at the Zone 7, Wuse office of the commission on Tuesday, top officers, who were apparently shocked by the media report, expressed doubts about its veracity, pointing out that the appointment was hastily done.
They said it was not likely that an "outsider" would be appointed when there are three senior officers of the commission, each eminently qualified to head it.
The top officers of the FRSC, including the out-going corps marshal, were said to have been taken unawares by the development, making them to dismiss the report as mere rumour.
However, they said they would brace up for the arrival of the new helmsman.
Chidoka, 35, is a 1995 graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management.
An FRSC source told Daily Sun that if the appointment is upheld, the commission is as good as destroyed.
"It is tantamount to making an Inspector or a seargent the Inspector-General of Police. It's a recipe for disaster," the source said.
