LAGOS - The Police will today arraign suspected killers of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Engr. Funso Williams on July 26th, 2006 at the High court in Igbosere, Lagos State.
Though, the exact number of those to be paraded including other relevant details were yet to be ascertained as at press time, Police sources said they will include the nine suspects recently paraded by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero in Abuja as the masterminds of the killing of Engr. Willaims.
It was gathered that those to be arraigned will also include all the people arrested and screened and later found to have direct link with the death of the Politician.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ehindero recently disclosed that nine suspects would be arraigned in court for high degree involvement in the murder. The suspects, according to him, includes, three mobile Policemen on guard duty that particular day, the Day guard and four persons who at various times were in possession of the GSM phone of the Late Engr. Williams.
The Police boss said that the nine suspects have been delineated out of 46 suspects that were arrested. and that 20 suspects had already been charged to court for being in possession of illegal uniforms. 'The beauty of the investigation is that it was done in a way that the phone of the deceased was found with some of th suspects", he stated.
Given a breakdown of those that used the phone after the death of Engr. Williams, the Police boss said, 'The Samsung phone was found on one of the suspects, Abubarkar Kalamu. Others that used the phone at a point include Bulama Kolo, Garuba Abubakar, and Musa Maina. From our final conclusion, we (Police) think the onus lies on them to explain to the court how they came in possession of the phone. Other household materials, trinkets, wristwatches were also discovered missing.
'We discovered that one Davis Kassidy, the Day security guard, facilitated the commission of the offence. One Felix John was arrested by the State Security Service (SSS). We found in his phone, some text messages expressing jubilation about a job well done when the murder was successfully carried out. The three mobile Policemen on guard duty that night are also being prosecuted as suspects because we are at a loss that they were there and knew nothing. How come they did not know what happened that night? They will go to court to explain", Mr. Ehindero further stated.
