The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, has arrested 25 persons, including a 20-year-old Swiss girl and a 29-year-old Togolese, while attempting to smuggle hard drugs out of the country.
Briefing newsmen on Wednesday, the Commander of NDLEA, MMA, Alhaji Abdullahi Danburam, said the Swiss girl and her lover were arrested by the NDLEA operatives at the airport while they were about to board a KLM Royal Dutch Airline flight to Amsterdam with 5.3 kilogrammes and 5 kilogrammes of cocaine.
Danburam said the hard drugs were concealed in the suspects' swimming shorts and girdles.
The Togolese, according to the NDLEA commander, was arrested on March 10, during the outward clearance of Air France flight to Paris.
He was said to have concealed 3.3 kg of cocaine in the false bottom of his hand luggage and ingested others, bringing the total to 4.06kg.
Danburam said that the agency had reported the cases to the Swiss Embassy and the Togolese Embassy in Nigeria. He, however, said the suspects would be prosecuted according to laws of Nigeria.
'They have committed a crime and the law that applies to other suspects who are Nigerians will apply to them," he said.
He said 57 drug traffickers were arrested in the first quarter of this year, a figure he claimed exceeded the same period in 2004.
