WARRI - A FEMALE student of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun in Delta State jumped off a storey building, Monday night, and sustained a fracture on her leg while trying to escape from three armed male students of the institution who raped her in turns on the eve of the school's matriculation.
Authorities of the institution, yesterday, announced the suspension of the three rapists who were promptly handed over to the police at Epan Division, Effurun for appropriate action. The matriculation ceremony itself was almost marred, yesterday, as the students protested the non-release of funds to them for the Students Union Week.
Vanguard learnt that the unsuspecting victim was lured to the ?slaughter house? through a male friend of hers only for the boys who were armed with knife to pounce on her. Two of the boys had already had their way with her and the third one was about to have his when the bewildered victim refused, compelling one of the boys to ask his colleague to bring a knife.
Out of fear, having heard somebody being asked to fetch a knife, the victim ran out of the house naked and jumped down from the building. She was reportedly rushed to the Health Centre of the institution before she was taken outside for x-ray.
President of the Students Union Government, Mr. Utoro Morrison applied to the school authorities for an assistance of N1.9 million for the Students Union Week but no funds were released. Vanguard was, however, told the authorities reasoned that the union was supposed to be a self-funding organ and its activities funded from money generated from its charges and other dues they collect. The Registrar of the institution in his minute to the principal on the request stated that ?there is no provision in the budget for this please.?
