The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday stormed the headquarters of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), arresting the director general, Mrs. Mfon Usoro and the former executive director, finance, of the paratstatal, Mr. Chukwuneke Eziala.

The EFCC operatives, who arrived NIMASA Burma Road, Apapa, office, in a white Hiace bus, with the registration number, BM 510 RBC at 8am, moved straight to the Accounts Department of the authority, where they checked the books and ransacked files for sundry financial transactions.

Throughout the day, business activities were paralysed in the office, as only port operators and NIMASA staff were allowed to enter into the premises, while journalists were barred.
At about 4p.m., the Director-General of NIMASA, Mrs. Usoro and former executive director, finance, Mr Eziala, were taken away to an undisclosed destination by the EFCC officials.

Daily Sun gathered that this development might not be unconnected with a recent advertorial in national dailies alleging that the NIMASA boss had purchased some important items valued at millions of Naira for the use of the authority without getting due approval from the board.
Before she left, Usoro told her staffers, who wore mournful looks: "Don't be disturbed, do your work, I will be back."

Mrs Usoro came into office last August following the sack of Chief Festus Ugwu, former director general of the National Maritime Authority (NMA).
