Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Enugu State, Mr. Sullivan Chime, has been declared winner of the governorship election.

Announcing the result, after the rescheduled election in four local government areas, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Bulama, said that Chime recorded the highest in number of votes the election.
Speaking after being declared winner, Chime advised his opponents to see the election as sports, where a winner and a loser will emerge.

Said he: "If what we have in mind when we were going into the field was what will be good for the people, if you don't win you should be able to give your best, work hard with whosoever is elected and put in your best.

"If you lose and go and sit down and say it is no longer your business, I tell you that your motive of coming out, in the first place, should actually be looked at, maybe you came for selfish reasons and if you came with the interest of the people at heart you should be able to work with whosoever emerges.

"What I expect us to do is to come together, work hard and see if we can perfect the system. If we can do that, we can join hands to see what we can do about INEC trying all these new things (computerization). They are manned by human beings. Once there are problems, there are problem," he said.

Chime garnered 811798 votes in the election to place ahead of Chief Okey Ezea of Labour Party, who scored 22,502 votes, followed by Chief Fidel Ayogu of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), who scored 19,550 and Barr. Ugochukwu Agballa with 15,287 votes to place fourth.
