Nigerian Politicians Criticize Presidential Polls

Nigerian legislators said they were concerned about Saturday's presidential elections which were undermined by fraud and violence throughout the West African nation.

Nigerian legislators said they were concerned about Saturday's presidential elections which were undermined by fraud and violence throughout the West African nation.

Both opposition party members and even members of the ruling People's Democratic Party spoke out against polls that are set to bring the country a new leader after eight year.

"The problem we have in Nigeria is that every succeeding election is worse than the previous one," senate president and member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) Ken Nnamani told a delegation of foreign election observers which included former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

"The election of 1999 was better than that of 2003, and if care is not taken, that of 2003 will be better than that of 2007."

The opposition Action Congress lashed out at the national electoral body, saying it had rigged the elections in favour of the PDP.
