Kano State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Atiku Aliyu Abubakar on Thursday revealed that some Nigerians were among the foreign militants, who have been fighting against the Nigerian state and killing people in the troubled zone of Panshekara, a sprawling town in the state.
Speaking to the press in his Bompai office, he maintained that while the motive of the militant group was yet to be established, it is evident that not all those involved in the fight were foreigners.
He said that from what the police have so far gathered, 'these people have been here for a long time, we are indeed interested in finding out who have been entertaining them, what their mission are and why they are doing what they did."
He added that who ever is established to be behind the militants, no matter who, would be arrested and brought to book, according to the law of the land.
He also said that so far, soldiers are busy chasing them in the bush, stating that as a result, it is very difficult to give a total figure of the number of militants that have so far been killed. He, however, noted that the Army has handed over only five of the arrested militants to the police, and three among them have been taken to the hospital because they were injured in the fight.
He assured that the Panshekara area is now safe for habitation, while asking residents of the area who had fled in the wake of the disturbance to come back and resume their normal life and businesses.
He also maintained that some people, who are opposed to the conduct of the presidential polls are bent on cashing on the disturbing situation in Panshekara area to scare people and create confusion over the conduct of polls on Saturday.
