Abia State governorship candidate of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Chief Theodore Ahamefule Orji, made history on Sunday as the first person in the country's history to emerge as governor while in detention when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him as the winner of Saturday's governorship election.

Abia State governorship candidate of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Chief Theodore Ahamefule Orji, made history on Sunday as the first person in the country's history to emerge as governor while in detention when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him as the winner of Saturday's governorship election.
Chief Orji was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) few weeks to Saturday's election and arraigned along with other PPA candidates for Abia State House of Assembly. Ever since, he has been in detention.
Announcing the results in Umuahia, Abia State capital on Sunday, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prince Solomon Soyebi, disclosed that the PPA candidate polled 265,389 to come tops, while governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, came a distant second with 136,858 votes.
The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate, Chief Ikechi Emenike came third with 36,378 and Chief Uzodima Okpara of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 27,425 votes, among others.
Soon after the announcement of the results, people went to the streets in wild jubilation, while commercial motorcyclists and taxi drivers drove round the state capital hailing the outcome of the election.
While the people were jubilating over the results of the election, the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Ugochukwu, was said to have withdrawn to his country home, Umule, in Ohuhu area of Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state, where he addressed a press conference.
Speaking at the conference, Ugochukwu alleged that the election was manipulated. He vowed to take his protest to the appropriate authorities.
In Akwa Ibom State, the PDP candidate, Obong Godswill Akpabio, was declared winner of the governorship polls, having garnered 1, 044, 566 votes. He was followed by the Action Congress candidate, James Iniama, who polled 19, 865 votes, while the ANPP candidate, Ewang, polled 11, 436.
In Ogun State, incumbent governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel emerged winner with 426, 132 votes, with ANPP candidate, Ibikunle Amosun, coming second with 135, 149 votes. The AC candidate in the state polled 79, 915 votes.
In Ekiti State, PDP candidate, Chief Segun Oni was declared winner, just as the incumbent governor of Osun State, Olagunsoya Oyinlola, won the governorship election in the state.
The ANPP candidate and incumbent governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, was declared winner of the governorship election.
In Ebonyi, PDP candidate, Chief Martins Elechi was declared winner.
In Rivers State, Mr. Celestine Omehia of the PDP won the governorship election. He recorded 1, 853, 217, while Labour Party candidate, Ashley Emenike came second with 101, 347 votes. The Democratic Peoples Party (PPP) candidate, Sergeant Awuse scored 40, 695 votes.
