The stage may have been set for the eventual emergence in the next dispensation of youthful chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as Nigeria ’s Inspector-General of Police.

This is sequel to Ribadu’s promotion to the rank of Assistant-Inspector-General from his former rank of commissioner of police which he was only recently equally promoted to on the special recommendation of President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The president who announced the latest promotion of the EFCC boss at a stakeholders’ forum on the economy which he convened in Abuja yesterday said it was done based on the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero.
He equally announced the renewal and extension of the Ribadu’s tenure as the EFCC’s chairman which officially expired last weekend.
“The chairman of the EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu’s tenure has been renewed and extended. Not only is his tenure extended but, based on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police, he has also been promoted to the rank of Assistant-Inspector-General of Police (AIG) from today,” he disclosed.
President Obasanjo said the promotion, renewal and extension of the tenure of Ribadu at the EFCC was not only as a result of hardwork but also the need to sustain the reforms of the administration recorded in the past few years.
He lauded Ribadu and members of his team for the efficiency and patriotism, which, he said, they had exhibited at the EFCC, stressing the need for the commission to be allowed to continue with the good work.
He counselled the next administration to ensure that it provided the political will to carry out the task ahead and assist the EFCC accordingly.
