AN Army corporal who alledgedly robbed five women of their money and telephone handsets has met his waterloo as the women summoned courage and disarmed him before taking him to the police station in Kaduna.
The incident happened last weekend just as another soldier was arrested for the same offence at the Barau Dikko Hospital where he had gone to enquire whether his victims in an earlier robbery were responding to treatment.
According to reliable police sources, the corporal was arrested when he had dispossessed the women of their money and other valuables and ordered them to leave but they resisted and struggled with him before taking away his riffle from him.
The incident was said to have happened at the Malali areas where the soldier left his duty post at the house of a retired Army general to rob unsuspecting passersby.
'The soldier had robbed the five women and asked them to go but they resisted. When the women refused to leave, the soldier asked them ‘to frog jump' as punishment but the women instead summoned courage and disarmed him before other passers-by helped and arrested him.
'The suspect was taken to the Kawo Police Station from where he was dismissed by military authorities who have also requested the police to ensure thorough investigation and prosecution" the police sources said.
On the second suspect, Saturday Vanguard was told that he had gone to the Barau Dikko Hospital where his victims were rushed to the previous night to ascertain whether they were dead or alive. But luck ran out on him as he was recognised by one of the daughters of his victim who then raised alarm.
'When this man was later arrested by the police, he flashed his military identity card but when he was searched, the police recovered two expensive telephone sets from him.
'While he was making his statement, police detectives scrolled one of the telephone sets recovered from him and used a valentine message found in it to call the sender [of the message].
'Immediately the detectives called, the reciever at the other end thought it was the real owner of the telephone and asked: ‘have you found your phone? Ah, thanks be to God...'
'It was at this point that the soldier was confronted with these facts and he owned up that he had robbed the woman at Barau Dikko, Ungwar Rimi" the police sources added.
