NFA fire Uwua

Nigeria Football Association (NFA) have sacked Under-20 coach, Godwin Koko Uwua, following the recommendations of the technical committee of the body.

Nigeria Football Association (NFA) have sacked Under-20 coach, Godwin Koko Uwua, following the recommendations of the technical committee of the body.

Coach Uwua's removal came as a result of Under-20's disastrous outing at the last African Youth Championship (AYC) in Congo, where they managed to win silver, after playing a series of uninspiring matches in the tournament.
Although he qualified Nigeria to play in the FIFA World Youth Championship (WYC) finals in Canada, Nigerians were not impressed with his tactical abilities.

Uwua was criticized for his unfriendly relationship with the players and the way he poorly managed the team before and during the African event.

According to a statement from the NFA Secretary-General, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, signed by the Personal Assistant to the NFA Chairman, Tunde Aderibigbe, Uwau's assistant, Ladan Bosso would take over the team temporarily until a substantial Under-20 coach is announced by the association.

The statement also advised the yet-to-be named coach not to rely solely on foreign-based players while building a new team for the world event billed for July this year.
The NFA said they were determined to closely monitor affair of all the national teams in a bid to avert similar occurrences in future.
