Rivers to flush out illegal immigrants


ILLEGAL immigrants from Chad and Niger republic constituting nuisance in garden city may soon be flushed out of the state.

PORT HARCOURT - ILLEGAL immigrants from Chad and Niger republic constituting nuisance in garden city may soon be flushed out of the state. The new Comptroller, Nigerian Immigration in Rivers State, Mr Emmanuel Ifeadi gave this indication when he paid a courtesy visit on governor Peter Odili. According to him, he had resolved to send them packing out of the state because of the social and security risk they pose to the area.

He said in the spirit of brotherliness which is behind the formation of ECOWAS those into legitimate trade in the state would be encouraged to legitimise their stay . He appealed for logistics assistance especially in the area of transport, to enable them move the illegal immigrants to their country of origin.


The Comptroller of Immigration also appealed to the State Government to facilitate the relocation of the present occupants of the building officially allocated to the Immigration Services to enable them take possession of the building and thanked the Governor for his various supports and assistance not only to Immigration Services but other Military and Para-Military units in the State.


Mr. Ifeadi who said that he had consistently followed the activities of the Rivers State Governor right noted with delight the present level of development witnessed in the State, describing Dr Odili as a pragmatic leader whose dreams should be kept afloat.


Responding, the Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili who welcomed the new Comptroller of Immigration to the state promised that the state government would continue to support Federal Agencies in the state to discharge their duties creditability.


'We believe that Government is one because the nation is one, whether you belong to the federal or state services, the fact that the work you are doing is local in content, and falls within our jurisdiction, we have no choice but to support you", Dr Odili declared.


Dr Odili used the opportunity to commend the Nigerian Immigration Service for improved service delivery to Nigerians, especially in the prompt area of issuance of International passport. He thanked the Comptroller for the words of encouragement and sentiments expressed about his administration, and the Comptroller-General for giving the country an improved service delivery.
