ROME (Reuters) - Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi has resigned in a meeting with the country's president, who has accepted and will start consultations with political leaders, a political source told Reuters on Wednesday.
The source spoke shortly after the centre-left prime minister left a meeting with President Giorgio Napolitano at which aides said he was expected to resign, after a major defeat in the Senate on foreign policy.
