Fayose's lawyer's office burgled

Lawyer to the former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose claimed on Tuesday that his law offices had been broken into and thoroughly ransacked by unknown persons.

Lawyer to the former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose claimed on Tuesday that his law offices had been broken into and thoroughly ransacked by unknown persons.

Barrister Bunmi Olatemiju, who said the incident happened between Sunday night and Monday morning, told Daily Sun that those who burgled his offices were apparently searching for documents relating to the cases instituted by the former governor to challenge his impeachment last year.

The lawyer noted, however, that the hoodlums were unsuccessful in their mission as none of the files containing documents relating to Fayose was kept in the office. 'The only things they took were six international passports belonging to some of our clients," he said.

His words: "I was in my office at Tejumula House, Omole all day on Sunday and I left at 7.30p.m. But when my secretary got to the office in the morning on Monday, the office had been burgled. Everywhere had been searched. They checked all the files in my office and destabilized the shelves and my secretary's office. But they didn't take away any of the files."

The legal practitioner. who disclosed that the incident was immediately reported at the Ojodu Police station, however, maintained that the hoodlums could not have been mere robbers.
'If it was a robbery case, they would have stolen some stuff. There were computers in the office. I had my laptop in the office.

There was a television set, worth over N100,000 and other expensive things in the office. If they were robbers, they could have stolen some things," he said.
The lawyer said the burglars must have been searching for files relating to Fayose, with a view to frustrating the trial.
'It is the calculation of our perceived enemies to frustrate the trial. But we don't leave such files in the office.

This case is too sensitive for us to leave the files in the office. This is a trial on documents. If you are able to get rid of your opponent's documents, it's a tactical way of having the case."
While urging the police not to treat the incident strictly as a robbery case, Olatemiju said the incident had more to do with the Fayose case.
