As the jostling by senators from the South-East Zone for the post of senate president currently occupied by Senator Adolphus Wabara heightens, one of the touted aspirants, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume has denied canvassing for it.

As the jostling by senators from the South-East Zone for the post of senate president currently occupied by Senator Adolphus Wabara heightens, one of the touted aspirants, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume has denied canvassing for it.

Senator Ararume in an interview with Daily Sun in his country home at Isiegwu in Isiala Mbano local government council of Imo State said, " I am not canvassing to be senate president. I have not canvassed to anybody for it. I have not been talking to anybody regarding that"

According to him, he aspired for the post of senate president in 2003 but his party, Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) decided on Senator Wabara and he supported him, and had since always supported him"
On the N55 million bribery scandal that rocked the National Assembly, Senator Ararume who represents Okigwe Zone stated that those indicted by the EFCC report should be given opportunity to defend themselves.

"It is my opinion that those affected with the EFCC report will have the opportunity to defend themselves. I believe that at the end of the day, they are either charged to court or senate ethics and privileges committee will come out on what they think is the actual situation."

Senator Ararume charged the people in the state to participate fully during the National census exercise, saying that federal constituencies and other sharing formula are based on population.
"They must come out and register, so that our number will be okay, should there be anything the Federal government consider to do with population figure."
