I'm ready to quit - Etiaba

As the Court of Appeal delivers judgment today on the impeachment of former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, the sitting governor, Dame Virgy Etiaba, says she is ready to hand over if the court so declares, as she is standing in the gap for her former boss.

Speaking in Awka on Thursday, Governor Etiaba maintained that her relationship with Obi since she assumed office as governor has been cordial.

'The relationship between me and Mr. Obi, my boss, has been cordial and he still remains my boss," she said.
Etiaba said that her assumption of office as the governor was based on the decision of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) leadership and support of its presidential candidate and leader, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
The governor maintained that the position of the party, which led to her taking over from Mr. Obi, was constitutional.

'You know the constitution said that if the governor is not there, the deputy takes over," she said.
Recounting the achievements of her administration, Etiaba said she continued with the programmes of Obi, revealing that the government was working on 500 kilometres of roads and inherited 200 kilometres from the administration of Dr. Chris Ngige.
The governor further said that she has rehabilitated 15 secondary schools and equipped them with science equipment to enhance the teaching of science subjects.

Meanwhile, Governor Etiaba has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle in the state. Under the new arrangement, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Development, Dr. Nkem Okeke, has the Ministry of Works added to his office, while the Special Adviser on Works, Chief Nick Obi, moves to Utilities, under the Bureau for Basic Infrastructure.
Former Special Adviser, Special Duties, Mr. Dubem Obaze, is now political adviser to the governor, while former campaign manager to Obi, Chief Sylvester Nwobu-Alor, takes over as Senior Special Assistant, Special Duties.
