As the sacking of the Honourable Minister of Education, Prof. Fabian Osuji and the indictment of Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara over the N55 million bribe scandal through radio broadcast continue to dominate political discourse, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council has called for similar treatment for the former Inspector General of Police, Mr Tafa Balogun.
As the sacking of the Honourable Minister of Education, Prof. Fabian Osuji and the indictment of Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara over the N55 million bribe scandal through radio broadcast continue to dominate political discourse, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council has called for similar treatment for the former Inspector General of Police, Mr Tafa Balogun.
In a statement issued in Enugu, through its National President, Hon. Nnamdi Nwokocha and Secretary General Comrade Chuks Ibegbu, the Council said "the crusade must be extended to others who misappropriated the public funds including the National ID Card scam.
The group urged the President to desist from going on the air whenever any issue on investigation involving Ndigbo come up and from becoming the accuser, prosecutor and judge in such matters.
The Ndigbo Youth argued that "there should be thorough investigation by the appropriate authorities involving everybody known and unknown in connection with the alleged corruption."
The organisation expressed surprise that the president went on air for the first time to dismiss a minister on the allegation of bribery with the National Assembly to jerk-up the budget for his ministry. Stating that the action became common in the country since 1999.
According to it, "it is an open secret that federal ministers, state commissioners, political interest groups and even the presidency whenever the need arises, quickly suborn the state and federal legislative as the case maybe to make the later to do their work in favour of those who has suborned them."
In the face of the alleged deliberate policy to marginalise, intimidate and relegate Indigbo, Youth Council said it "is documenting all the unconstitutional acts President Obasanjo has done against the Igbo race, including the persecution and breach of the fundamental rights of MASSOB and will in the fullness of time pursue these mattes in court of law against him.
"Ndigbo should not be used as guinea pigs or pawns in the chessboard of Nigerian politics." If this is the whole idea of democracy let it go to hell," the organisation stated.
