`How Omeruah died'

Former Minister for Sports and one-time governor of old Anambra State, Air Commodore Emeka Omeruah, died in his sleep with his room safely locked at his residence at the Westminister, Central London, a family source told THISDAY yesterday.

Former Minister for Sports and one-time governor of old Anambra State, Air Commodore Emeka Omeruah, died in his sleep with his room safely locked at his residence at the Westminister, Central London, a family source told THISDAY yesterday.

According to the source, Omeruah arrived London from Dubai on Saturday, and could not be reached, prompting his wife and friends to alert the Metropolitan Police in London.

'He was found dead in his room on Monday, and was pronounced dead by the Police medical team. They didn't see any reason to take him to any hospital, because he was pronounced dead on the spot.

"There would be an autopsy today (Thursday), and his son is expected on saturday," the source said.

Family members are not suspecting foul play, because 'he has a history of back pain. No suspicion of foul play. His door was securely locked, and police had to force it open," the source added.

The police forced their way into his room in Westminster and found him lying on the floor where he was pronounced dead on the spot.
