Odili tackles Edwin Clark on support for Marwa

The Peter Odili Presidential Campaign Organisation (POPCO) has described as unfortunate, a statement credited to Chief Edwin Clark that the South-South will back General Mohammed Buba Marwa if it fails to clinch the presidential ticket of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

According to the Organisation's Director of Strategy Dr Umar Ardo, no right thinking leader of the South- South will contemplate giving away the region's well deserved opportunity to take a shot at the nation's top job at this time. 'Chief Edwin Clark, with all due respect, must be speaking for himself as no well meaning South- South leader will contemplate giving away the trophy when victory is almost achieved," he said.

Explaining that the 2007 elections present the best opportunity for the South- South region to take a shot at the presidency after 46 years of alienation from it, Dr Ardo said it remains in the best interest of the North to allow the Presidency to go to the South- South.

This he said becomes more so if the fact that the South -South from the history of the country has always supported the North to win the Presidency is taken into consideration.
He said in the political equation of Nigeria from the sixties, the North and the South- South had always worked together to achieve a common goal and the position cannot now change when the South-South needs the support of the North.

According to Ardo, Dr. Peter Odili of Rivers State, is in the best position to represent the South-South as the next President of the country with the backing of the North and indeed all parts of the country.
He therefore urged all South-South leaders to eschew bitterness and avoid statements motivated by selfish interests while rallying round Dr Odili who has received acceptance from well meaning Nigerians across the country.
