The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Bassey Ewa has denied claims by the former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Venatius Ikem that he sponsored thugs that allegedly attacked him recently in the state.
Ewa, in a statement issued weekend, said while the claim was typical of Ikem, who according to him, 'suffers occasional bouts of hallucinations," there was no iota of truth to it.
Insisting he had nothing to do with the said attack, the Speaker asked Ikem to look for his 'demons" wherever they may be and stop trying to drag the names of innocent people like him in the mud.
Ewa, who just picked the PDP ticket for Yakurr/ Abi Federal Constituency, said he has always preached against violence in politics and as such, Ikem's claim was 'not only inconsistent with my character, but is also a demonstration of an increasingly frustrated politician whose governorship ambition has fallen flat on his face."
The politician reiterated his belief in politics without bitterness and therefore, asked every other politician, including Ikem to imbibe it.
He said it is only by so doing that politicians can truly deliver on electoral promises to the people.
While urging that the allegation made against him by Ikem be discountenanced, he vowed that no shenanigans by 'elements" such as Ikem, would divert his attention from the noble course of serving the people in his present and future capacity.
