AC Congress: 5 injured,aspirant escapes death


No fewer than five persons were injured yesterday during the local government congress of the Action Alliance in Obokun local government as members engaged in a free for all.

A gubernatorial aspirant, Chief Jumoke Ogunkeyede was reported to have narrowly escaped being lynched in the melee while his Jeep was severely damaged.

The congress could not hold in six local governments in the state due to crises which the party decided to manage first to prevent chaos.

Saturday Sun learnt that the trouble started in Obokun as supporters loyal to Mr Rauf Aregbesola and Chief Jumoke Ogunkeyede clashed with those who are in the camp of Chief Dele Ige. It was further gathered Dele Ige faction presented Chief Ademola Adejuwon to be elected as chairman of the party in the council while the Aregbesola faction put its support behind Chief David Ogunniyi for the same post.

It was gathered that voting had almost started when one of the factions attacked the other with matchets, which was resisted and subsequently led to a bloodbath.

Ogunkeyede, who managed to escaped with his battered jeep was sighted in Osogbo at about 6pm yesterday, while another victim simply identified as Takoro was said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The police who were drafted to the scene were said to have tried but could not curtail the situation.
Meanwhile, the congress could not hold in six local government council area of the state including Obokun, Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Irewole and Ife South.
