Chris Uba remains godfather of Anambra politics - Andy Uba

Former Special Adviser to the President on Domestic Matters, Mr Andy Uba, has denied having any problem with his brother, Chief Chris Uba, who, he said, remains the godfather of Anambra politics.

Former Special Adviser to the President on Domestic Matters, Mr Andy Uba, has denied having any problem with his brother, Chief Chris Uba, who, he said, remains the godfather of Anambra politics.

Andy Uba, who spoke in Awka on Sunday, further carpeted his fellow governorship aspirants for not mobilising members of the Peoples Democratic Party for the party's state congress, noting that those who are destroying his posters and billboards are afraid of his political clout.

He expressed confidence that he will win the governorship primaries, adding that his brother, Chris Uba, is not coordinating his campaign but is more of a godfather.

'I am working hard for my gubernatorial primaries, if not I wouldn't be here and when you work hard, it just pays off. That is why I am here. My fellow aspirants are not here. They need to work hard as I am doing and it will just pay off. The turn out and number of people that registered for this assembly primaries are about 217 and I am sure there is no- where you can see this in the country," Uba said.

On the the rumour that his younger brother is against him, Andy Uba said: 'Chris Uba, my brother, is not working against me. He is actually the one helping me. He is not silent, the godfather just ducked. He remains the godfather and I am one of the candidates. Godfathers sit and they watch and that is what he is doing. They don't talk much. You watch the movies, godfathers stay at home and they send messages back to the people. He is making sure there is peace and there is a level playing field."

Anambra lawmakers, who have been basking in the euphoria of an automatic return ticket to the House of Assembly after accomplishing the impeachment of Mr. Peter Obi, had their ambition fall like a pack of cards at the primaries.

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State, Comrade Tony Nwoye, gave a run down of the tentative results of the primaries.

His words: 'In Aguata constituency, Okey Aronu, a member of the House of Assembly, lost to one Gabriel Onuigbo. In Orumba South, Echezona Okechi lost to Princess Nkiru Ugochukwwu, both of them are from Umunze. In Orumba North, preliminary results has it that Uche Ogbonna is leading Okonkwo Okom with a lot of margin. In Anambra East Local Government, where I come from, Chief Joe Isiagu, a former auditor of PDP, defeated Hon. Ossy Chinwuba and I learnt that Chinwuba has congratulated the other person. In Awka South II, the report said that Ozo Ughamadu, the deputy Speaker won but there are complaints which we are going to look into.

'In Oyi Local Government, the report we got is that Hon. Ben Obidigbo, who is a member of the House of Assembly lost to somebody from Nteje, Mr. P. I. Egwuonwu, who was a former assembly member. In Ayamelum, we learnt that Onyewuife Gabriel defeated others, including Peter Onuora, the incumbent lawmaker. In Ekwusigo, one Mr. Afam Obi from Ihembosi deafeated the majority leader, Hon Nsofor. Nsofor complained bitterly over his loss.

'In Onitsha North, the Speaker Balonwu, did not stand for the election. He is contesting for the House of Representatives. In Onitsha South I, an assembly member lost the nomination.

'In Idemili South, we learnt that the assembly member, Alphonsus Uzoegwu disrupted the election when he saw that he was losing. We are going to re-conduct the election. These people were rejected by the constituencies and it is not our fault. They had a problem with the former governor. I am not aware of automatic ticket and I have said it severally, if there is a promise I would have known and nobody mentioned automatic ticket. And if they did, I would have refused vehemently."

Reacting to the rumour that the PDP leadership in the state is negotiating with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to appoint the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mike Balonwu as the Deputy Governor, Nwoye said it is not feasible.

'I have not made any statement on this issue of deputy governor but I tell you that it is not feasible. If that happens, the message it will send to Nigerians and the entire world is that the impeachment was done for them to benefit. I don't think that we as a party are going to allow this to be done."
